How does skin needling work?

The premise is simple - create a small wound and the skin will respond with collagen production and new skin cells.

Depending on the depth of the needle penetration, the RejuvaPen can offer skin rejuvenation levels from the simple enhancement of product absorption to the clinical treatment of scars and wrinkles.

What can the RejuvaPen be used for?

RejuvaPen allows the physician to quickly treat specific skin areas - large or small - to achieve a number of goals.

  • Lip wrinkles
  • Skin Texture / Tone
  • Pore appearance
  • Increase product absorption
  • Superficial facial wrinkles
  • Skin texure on the neck
  • Acne Scarring / Trauma Scarring
  • Melasma and Pigmentation
  • Textural improvements to chest
  • Stretch marks

Treatment on the face is the primary location, but skin needling can successfully be used on any area of the body.

From very superficial penetration to deep dermal penetration, the professional applications have a wide range of potential to improve and correct skin problems without the use of lasers. Penetration ranges begin at cosmetic depth of 0.25mm to clinical treatment depths up to 2.5mm.

What is Micro Needing?

What is Micro Needing?

The RejuvaPen micro needling device delivery provides unparalleled collagen induction therapy via fractional delivery of needles into the epidermis and dermis. These micro injuries to the skin encourage and harness the power of the body’s innate ability to re-grow and repair the skin through the physiology of collagen induction. The micro needling before and afters are typical of a series of treatments where patients experienced four to six treatments over the space of 2 to six months. Each micro needling before and after treatment is done four weeks apart. Rejuvapen offers a solution for all skin conditions that clients might seek treatment for: wrinkles and fine lines, acne scarring, stretch marks, wound healing stimulation, and skin tightening, lifting and rejuvenation. This means you can offer a broader range of treatments for your clients. Rejuvapen treatments complement other treatment options already offering clients, chemical peels, IPL, Micro-dermabrasion and laser skin tightening. This will greatly increase their effectiveness. Please consult Needlelogics for Rejuvapen Certification and Training.

Can the Rejuvapen be used on Asian skin?

Skin needling can be safely performed on all skin colors and types. There is no risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation as the melanocytes remain intact, like the epidermis, during skin needling. Other invasive procedures such as laser resurfacing are not recommended for Asian skin due to the potential risks of delayed wound healing, pigmentary changes and scarring. This is where skin needling has an advantage as these potential risks are very unlikely due to the epidermis remaining intact.

 How does the RejuvaPen work?

The concept of skin needling is based on the skin’s ability to repair itself whenever it encounters physical damage such as cuts, burns and other abrasions. Immediately after an injury occurs our skin dissolves old damaged tissue and replaces it with new. Skin needling allows for controlled induction of the skin’s self repair mechanism by creating micro “injuries” in the skin which triggers new collagen synthesis, yet does not pose the risk of permanent scarring. The result is smoother, firmer and younger looking skin. RejuvaPen and Bella Aesthetic are experts in optimising this process to improve results and minimize complications and discomfort. Contact us to learn more. Ask about erythema management, pre treatment de-sensitisation, superoxide control and MMP1 activation.

 How is the treatment administered?

Skin needling procedures are performed in a safe and precise manner with the use of a brand new, sterile RejuvaPen needle head. The procedure is normally completed within 30-60 minutes depending on the required treatment and anatomical site. Before the procedure commences a topical anaesthetic or local block should be applied to the client’s skin to ensure their comfort and a painless experience. After the skin is numbed, the practitioner gently moves the RejuvaPen over the client’s skin to puncture the epidermis layers of the skin and create miniscule sub-cutaneous injuries. These microscopic wounds stimulate new collagen deposition which may last for up to a year, yet they close within less than an hour.

What is the skins appearance after the treatment?

After the procedure the client’s skin will be red and flushed in appearance in a similar way to moderate sunburn. The client will also experience skin tightness and mild sensitivity to touch on the area being treated. This will diminish greatly hours following treatments and within the next 24 hours the skin will be completely healed. After 3 days there is barely any evidence that the procedure has taken place.

 How quickly are results visible?

Visible results of skin rejuvenation are generally seen after just 6-8 weeks following procedure and improve further over time. A course of RejuvaPen sessions, is usually recommended to achieve optimum results; however skin improvement is noticeable after just one treatment. Clients should be encouraged to use the range of Bella Aesthetic products for both pre and post treatment. This will encourage better results and faster healing.

 Is the RejuvaPen safe?

Skin needling does not involve injections and therefore allergic reactions and side-effects are unlikely to occur. It is minimally invasive, involves minimal downtime (circa 24hrs), rapid healing and requires simple after-care.

What topical treatments can be used along with the RejuvaPen?

The RejuvaPen will induce collagen synthesis on its own, but skin improvements is significantly enhanced by combining skin needling treatments with the topical application of collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid stimulating products. Management of Superoxide free radical generation is important as this can exacerbate erythema and PIH risk. Standard anti-oxidants do not work on superoxide and one needs to use Synchrovit C containing superoxide dismutase.

Ask your consultant for more information. Terproline Professional was researched in Burns Units with published studies in vastly improving hypertrophic scars. Further research with full facial resurfacing lasers (10 days after scabbing) showed pain scores were reduced by 50% and also red skin returned completely normal (using erythema probes) in 3 weeks as opposed to 10 weeks in the untreated group.

Also elastin and collagen III development was enhanced for a more uniform, elastic and youthful skin. Imagine how this could help RejuvaPen procedures. Boosting hyaluronic acid production using Fillast serums and creams is important pre and post treatment. High hyaluronic acid leads to better collagen and elastin structure and reduced collagen binding. Also increased moisture control reduces post procedural complications and plumps up the skin. To learn more about recommended pre and post treatments please the consultant carrying out the procedure.

What are the indications for having a RejuvaPen treatment?

Skin needling is especially effective for aging concerns such as wrinkles, lines, folds and crows feet. Because collagen is produced, scars and stretch marks can also improve from treatments especially indented acne scars or chicken pox scars. Pigmentation issues can be helped including hyperpigmentation as well as Hypo-pigmentation, although pre treatment assessment and preparation here is essential. General lack of skin radiance, skin firmness and compactness are also an indication for skin needling treatments and visible improvements can be seen.

What are the contradications of skin needling treatments?
